A Special Guest...Grandma

We were able to get Grandma Smith to Vegas!  This was nothing short of a miracle.  This was the first time Grandma has ever been to one of our homes - a BIG deal for us!  It was such a wonderful treat.  Since the military moves us around so much, we aren't always able to be geographically close to Utah (where Grandma lives with her twin sister) and therefore aren't able to have the relationship we would like with Grandma - going to see her, visit with her, having her come over, etc.   However, now that we are in Vegas - and we are only 5 hours away; we thought we would try and get Grandma to come and visit - and she did!  It was fun to see the kids bond with Grandma throughout her visit.    CJ and Grandma bonded while making Kraft Macaroni and Cheese for lunch.  Preston and Grandma had a moment when Grandma taught Preston how she used to get her son's attention when he didn't listen (pulling his hair behind his ears - it's effective!), Aparri loved to chat with Grandma and tell her everything she was thinking, and little Detric and Grandma got along beautifully!  Grandma would hold Detric for Laura while she was getting other things done.  Detric just loved Grandma and Grandma loved him.  They were a cute pair!

We all loved her humor, helpfulness, stories about her childhood, her perspective on things, and her love. Thanks to Clay (who willingly watched the kids), Laura and Grandma were able to enjoy each others company without kids while shopping and going out lunch at the cheesecake factory.

Grandma is amazing...she is happy, healthy and 89 years old...her doctor says that she will probably live to be 100...what is her secret?  If you ask her she would probably say mentholatum & excedrin - her two life staples.  We were able enjoy her for 5 short days and loved every minute.  Thanks for coming and spending time with us Grandma - it really meant a lot to us!
