Little D is TWO

Detric is 2! This little boy loves motorcycles and helicopters!  So, we tried to incorporate those 2 things into his birthday as much as possible!  To start the day, Detric had his first breakfast in bed experience.  This little man wakes up super early (usually the first one in the house awake.)  So we had to make the breakfast extra early.  When we went in to deliver his breakfast, he was fast asleep.  However,  he went from dead asleep to, "Oooohhh" as his eyes popped open and went bright with excitement as he spotted a moving helo in his room!  Yep, Clay started flying a remote control helicopter in his room - and bam...that kid knows that sound and instantly woke up looking for his flying friend.  Laura was a little anxious about having a 2 year old eat in bed, but Clay convinced her that Detric was ready.  Plus,  Detric is also a very attentive little boy - he notices everything and doesn't want to be left out....so rather than disappoint the poor boy - we agreed to give him a chance...and he was amazing!  Didn't even spill...now that is amazing!  He even shared some of his french toast with Daddy!

During the day, Detric went for a motorcycle ride with Clay and Laura (don't tell the older kids...the motorcycles are their Christmas presents! But, while CJ, Preston, and Aparri are at school, Clay, Laura and Detric ride them!!!  ...just to make sure they are in good working order, of course!)  We told Detric the deal...we can only ride them if he keeps it a secret!  So far...so good!  (Now, Detric talks a bunch, but we are ALL still trying to figure out what he is saying half the time, so we are pretty confident he'll keep our secret, and if he doesn't....I still think we are ok!)

The afternoon was spent preparing the cake of the day....a Helicopter Cake!  Oh, did Detric like that!  It was a team effort as Nana and Laura pieced the cake together, and it turned out perfect!  When we were finished, we had to put it way up high...Detric couldn't keep his hands off it and we were worried it might not make it to the end of the day!

Dinner consisted of chicken rolls - one of Detric's favorites.  Detric's birthday party had several special guests...us - his parents and siblings!  Papa and Nana Smith, and Ellen, our neighbor.  When it came time for presents we really only needed to buy him one gift...after he opened up a truck and helicopter set - that was it.  He could care less about the rest of the presents...he was done!

We ended the night off with a blowing out the candles marathon...I'm not sure how many times we relit those suckers...but Detric was having a fabulous time blowing them out!  I think we can count this 2 year old birthday a success!
