Carlsbad Caverns National Park is..... Majestic, Magnificent, Awe Inspiring, Unique, A little eerie, exhausting, a definite family adventure.... Yes, Yes, and double yes. These amazingly beautiful and huge caverns that are beneath the New Mexico desert is truly a neat experience. We would definitely recommend adding this stop on your bucket list! We had a family tell us to take the elevator down instead of hike in....if you look on the display below of the whole cavern and see the tube going down...that is the elevator and the structure on top is the visitor center....Well, we knew our kids are good hikers, troopers and always up for a good walk...we decided NOT to take the elevator down. And we are so glad we didn't! You miss so much when you take the elevator. We did take a 1/2 way pit stop and use the potty, eat a snack and get some good drinks when we got to the elevator/break area....and then off to do the "Big Room" and loop around. When we were all done, hiking around - we weren't opposed to taking the elevator back up! We are adventurous, but we aren't crazy! We know our limits and our kids limits and at the end of it all...we were all spent! It was exhausting, but so worth it. We tried to take pictures and capture the grandeur and awe....but honestly, pictures just don't do the real thing justice..... you'll just have to go there yourself. And when you do...come up north a few hours and visit us!
